THE HAPPIEST PEOPLE
Joel 2:21
“Don’t be afraid, O land. Be glad now and rejoice, for the Lord has done great things.” (NLT)
Do you find it challenging to be joyful, glad, or happy?
When was the last time you THANKED the Lord for anything? Food on the table, a roof over your head, good friends, a church, the Bible, Jesus, your salvation?
At Easter, we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. We sing songs to remember the Road to Calvary, the cross, the disappointment and fear of Jesus’ followers, and the glorious – and unexpected – resurrection of Jesus from the grave.
Does that make you happy? It should! It should make us ALL joyful!
A.W. Tozer, a famous conservative early 20th-century preacher said: “The people of God ought to be the happiest people in all the wide world!”
Then he added: “People should be coming to us constantly and asking the source of our joy and delight.”
Wow. I suggest you re-read those and ponder them.
I sometimes wonder what those outside of the church think about those of us who attend churches and try to walk with the LORD. Do we seem any different? Are we more joyful? Are we more considerate? Are we more peaceful? Are we more loving?
How do others see you? Would most say you were happy? Sad? In between? Joyful? Determined … what?
The Dictionary of Bible Themes says: Happiness is a state of pleasure or joy experienced by people and God. TRUE happiness derives from a secure and settled knowledge of God, rejoicing in his works, and covenant faithfulness.
As we continue our 40 MORE days of Joy and Happiness, may YOU find time daily to be THANKFUL to our LORD and be full of JOY!
Prayer: LORD, help me to live differently than those who don’t know You. Help me be FULL of Your JOY every day; may others see it in me! Amen.
