Day 01 | FINDING JOY IN THE LORD

FINDING JOY IN THE LORD
from Psalm 16
“Keep me safe, my God, for in you, I take refuge. I say to the Lord, ‘You are my Lord; apart from you, I have no good thing.’ I say of the holy people who are in the land, ‘They are the noble ones in whom is all my delight.’ Those who run after other gods will suffer more and more.”
“I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, and my tongue rejoices; My body will also rest secure, because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful one see decay. You make known to me the path of life; You will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.” (NIV)
Have you ever had a problem? Have you ever needed assurance that God knows, cares, and can meet the need and guide you?
David is singing God’s praise here during a difficult time. We’re not told precisely what is going on, but note the phrases that David uses: “Keep me safe,” “In you I take refuge,” and “I keep my eyes always on the LORD.” Further, he says: “my heart is glad, and my tongue rejoices.” There is even a reference to his future resurrection (about 1000 years before Jesus) when he says "you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead.".
Here’s the application: if we want the results and pluses that David writes about here, we must have a mindset similar to David’s. Such as: “I keep my eyes always on the LORD.”
So, practically speaking, how does one do that?
Let me ask, what do you read? What do you watch? What do you listen to? Where are you on Sundays?
If we want the results that David received (peace, confidence, JOY, safety), we need to DO what David did.
Prayer: LORD God, remind me again daily to focus on YOU. Amen.
