Day 16 | THE PROMISE OF ETERNAL LIFE

THE PROMISE OF ETERNAL LIFE
1 John 2:25
“And this is the promise that He has promised us – eternal life.”
Sometimes waiting can be challenging. When we are kids, we find it hard to wait for our birthdays to roll around, Christmas to get here, or summer vacation to start. We KNOW all of those things are fun for us and thus, we can be impatient while waiting. During the “waiting period,” we could – depending on our maturity level – begin to feel like that day will NEVER get here.
When John wrote this to the Christians of his era, they felt as though eternity with God in heaven “would never get here.” John reminds them here that Almighty God HAS promised us – we followers of Jesus – eternal life with the LORD. But (and here’s a side teaching) “eternal life” starts the minute we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior!
In the verses before and after this one, John warns his “little children” to NOT be deceived by Satan – the great deceiver – who will try to get us to DOUBT that Christ is coming again or that they (and we) have “eternal life” with God.
Today, we too need to beware of deceptions and liars who (empowered by the enemy of our faith) want us to DOUBT and give up.
Prayer: LORD, help me to internalize the reality of my eternal relationship with You and to reject those who try to persuade me that it’s NOT true. You are the way, the truth, and the LIFE, and no one comes to the Father but by You. Amen.
