Day 38 | THE GREATER AND MORE PERFECT TABERNACLE

THE GREATER AND MORE PERFECT TABERNACLE
From Hebrews 9
“Now the first covenant (the Old Covenant) had regulations for worship and also an earthly sanctuary.
6 When everything had been arranged like this, the priests entered regularly into the outer room to carry on their ministry. But only the high priest entered the inner room, and that only once a year, and never without blood, which he offered for himself and for the sins the people had committed in ignorance.
11 But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that are now already here, he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not made with human hands, that is to say, is not a part of this creation. He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption.
15 For this reason, Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free.”
Under the Old Covenant, the people of God worshiped in either the Tabernacle (which was portable and moved with the Children of Israel) or the Temple… a permanent building first built by Solomon. Today, we do not need a unique building to offer a special sacrifice, as THE Sacrifice has been offered once and for all. Thus, we can come into the “Holy of Holies” by pausing and praying to our Heavenly Father because of the “more perfect tabernacle” to which WE have access through being “born again.”
Re-read today’s selection from Hebrews 9 (in fact, you might want to look it up and read the entire chapter). What strikes me most about this mini-study of the Old vs. New Covenant is how much EASIER it is for us today to have a living relationship with Almighty God through what Jesus did for us 2000 years ago on the cross. Don’t ever take that for granted.
Prayer: LORD God, You are amazing, loving, kind, merciful, and gracious. Thank You for ALL You have done for us. Amen.
