40 Days of NEW with GOD
Day 16 | THE NEW COVENANT

THE NEW COVENANT

Hebrews 9:11-15
“But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? And for this reason He is the Mediator of the NEW COVENANT, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.”

This large but important chunk of Scripture makes a parallel between the Old Testament system of animal sacrifices for sin, which needed to take place annually, and the ONCE FOR ALL sacrifice of Jesus’ blood to cover ALL sins. That is the NEW covenant, aka the New Testament.

Since Adam and Eve, we have proven that we do one thing consistently well: SIN. And God made it clear, starting in Genesis 3, that the only payment for sin that He would accept was a blood sacrifice. (Don’t ask me why, that was God’s decision.)  So, God set up a sacrifice system for His people (animals), which continued until the Lamb of God, His Son, Jesus Christ, paid once for all sin on the cross of Calvary. “It is finished.”

We must never forget Christ’s sacrifice, which provides us THE WAY to have a right standing with God through the forgiveness of sins and life everlasting.

Prayer: Thank You, Father God, for the NEW covenant. Thank You for giving us Your only Begotten Son. I am glad to be one of your children. Amen.
