40 DAYS OF NEW - 13
Dr Jim Brown's TruNorth Devotional
40 Days of NEW with GOD
Day 13 | A NEW SONG
40 Days of NEW with GOD
Day 13 | A NEW SONG
A NEW SONG
Psalm 96:1-4
“Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! Sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, bless His name; proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day. Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples. For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised.”
Before I wrote this devotional this morning, I had breakfast with my long-time good friend, Phil. We’ve been friends for going on 40 years and spent nearly the entire breakfast talking about the LORD and how blessed we are. (Which is typical for our breakfasts!)
I mention this because the psalmist here – presumed to be David – is AGAIN singing the praises of God, even though he had done that time after time after time. Much like my breakfast this morning when we praised God… as we have done time after time after time.
You see, old saints (people who have been Christians a long time) CAN “sing to the LORD a new song.” If we try, we can find NEW events and things for which we can praise the LORD. There are new blessings, new relationships, answers to prayer, new insights about life and God and heaven, and how unbelievable it all is!
A successful Christian businessman and public speaker from the past – Zig Ziglar – used to challenge his audiences to become “Good Finders.” Look for GOOD every day and be thankful for it, or – if appropriate – show your appreciation to others you find doing good. He used to say that it may take practice (to become a Good Finder), but once you do, you AND those you compliment will be positively impacted.
So, what in your life recently can you praise God for? Make that your NEW SONG, “for the LORD is GREAT and greatly to be praised.” Make it a habit, and YOU will benefit.
Prayer: LORD God, thank you for my breakfast with my good friend this morning and how we spent nearly the entire hour talking about YOU and how YOU have blessed us. It was an uplifting and blessed time. Amen.
