NEW YEAR’S EVE

Ephesians 4:22-24
“To put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”

Every year, in each time zone around the globe, billions of people celebrate the New Year as it happens at midnight in their local time.  Many zones celebrate with elaborate fireworks displays or in other noteworthy ways.

In America, millions watch the “ball drop” in New York City, signifying the start of our new year.

The fact is that most people around the globe ENJOY the start of something NEW, and enjoying the beginning of a New Year is one most can agree upon.

Here in Ephesians, Paul is encouraging the Christians to become NEW.  He encourages putting OFF the old ways and being RENEWED.

Consider that these new Christians at Ephesus had many old habits from their past way of living that needed to be shed like a winter coat in the middle of summer.  They were different now and needed – with God’s help – to have their thinking, desires, and manner of life changed to be consistent with how the LORD wanted them to live… in righteousness and holiness.  Ephesians 4 is a terrific chapter on living and walking as a Christ-follower.

As we start a new year, how are you doing in terms of walking, talking, thinking, and living as a Christian?  Do you need to be RENEWED as Paul was encouraging those Christians to be?

Prayer: Lord, as we begin a New Year, I would like Your help in starting a NEW plan to become this year, more and more like Jesus.  Amen.
