HAPPY NEW YEAR! (Well, almost)

Isaiah 43:18-19
“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”

From Thanksgiving Day until New Year's Day, our lives are busy with parties, gatherings, food, presents, church services (special and regular), traveling, families, and more.

I remember how I felt as a kid at the end of each school year in June. I felt happy – that school was done (even though I was a pretty good student) – and glad that "summer vacation" was upon us. What also contributed to my euphoria was that the mistakes I made on tests, the papers that were not grade-A quality, and so on were behind me. I had a break from school and a chance to start over fresh come September when school (back then) started again.

Face it… we all need a FRESH START from time to time.

Today's verses from Isaiah 43 are instructive. We all need to REMEMBER the good things God has done for us and be thankful. But we also need to forget our past problems, issues, and failures (hopefully confessed to God) and look to our LORD God to do a NEW THING in our lives.

Our LORD wants to be our God, Guide, and Source of goodness as we travel through life and – for us today – into the New Year this week.

What are the highlights of this past year for which you need to thank God?

What are the lowlights of this past year that you need to CAST on Him (remembering He cares for you), and then with His help, TURN THE PAGE and move with JOY into the new year?

Prayer: LORD God, thank You for the blessings of this past year. I also ask for Your help as I follow You into the New Year, believing You want to do something new in my life. Amen
