ADVENT 2024
Day 15 | MARVELING
MARVELING

Luke 2:16-18
“And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds.”

The shepherds – risking their jobs – went “with haste” and found Mary, Joseph, and the baby Jesus.

I am amazed at how committed the shepherds were.  Of course, they did see and hear an angel speak, and they were – like most Jews – waiting for the Messiah.  But also, they wanted to know. They wanted to see for themselves this momentous event.

And in case you’re wondering – as some do – if Luke just invented this story, I think again, careful reading helps us understand.

The shepherds came, found the baby, and “…when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds.”

They told their story of the angel of the LORD speaking, the angels singing, and them leaving their flocks to come.  Mary heard all of this. And later, when Dr. Luke was putting together his account, he likely interviewed Mary and got the details.

Now in all fairness, it might not have been Dec 25 – no one actually knows. One thing is for sure… the lowly birth was vital but the date, not so much – or God would have told us.

The important thing is that God came down in the form of a baby.  Jesus was 100% God and 100% man at the same time.  God incarnate.  And because of that (and Easter), we can be born-again and enjoy a relationship with Almighty God.

Prayer: Thank You LORD, for this fantastic event.  You came to bring Good News to ALL people.  I am blessed to be one of your children.  Amen.
