Day 10 | GOD HAS A PLAN
ADVENT 2024
Day 10 | GOD HAS A PLAN
GOD HAS A PLAN
Luke 2:1-7
“Now in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus, that a census be taken of all the inhabited earth. This was the first census taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. And all the people were on their way to register for the census, each to his own city. Now Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, in order to register along with Mary, who was betrothed to him, and was pregnant. While they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son, and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger because there was no room for them in the inn.”
I'm sure we're all familiar with this story. We hear it every year and have probably seen it in many children's plays at church through the years.
But this year… I'm thinking something new.
Yesterday's devotional talked about Micah's prophecy of Christ's birthplace being Bethlehem… 700 years before it happened. And God ALWAYS keeps His Word and the prophecies that He has given to His prophets are always kept.
So how are Joseph and Mary going to make it to Bethlehem? Why go there? They were in Galilee, and she was nearly full-term with the baby. WHY travel?
Because Caesar – the government leader and a non-God follower – decreed a census would be taken. He decreed it… and it was so.
And yet, the decree of this non-God-follower played into God's plan and purpose of bringing the world what it needed most: a Savior.
Prayer: LORD, help me to remember that You have a BIG plan for these days too. Thank You for caring for me and help me to REST in You and TRUST You to work all things out for Your ultimate purpose. Amen.
