Day 3 | JESUS’ BIRTH FULFILLS PROPHECY
ADVENT 2024
Day 3 | JESUS’ BIRTH FULFILLS PROPHECY
JESUS’ BIRTH FULFILLS PROPHECY
Matthew 1:22-23
“So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: ‘Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,’ which is translated, ‘God with us.’”
The birth of Jesus was the fulfillment of multiple prophecies found in the Old Testament.
SOME of those are:
1. The Messiah would be born of a woman. Genesis 3:15 says, “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.”
2. The Messiah would be born in Bethlehem. Micah 5:2 says, “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”
3. The Messiah would be born of a virgin. Isaiah 7:14 says, “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” (“God with us”)
4. The Messiah would come from the line of Abraham. Genesis 12:3 says, “In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed”
5. The Messiah would be a decedent of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Genesis 21:12 says, “But God said to Abraham, ‘Do not let it be displeasing in your sight because of the lad or because of your bondwoman. Whatever Sarah has said to you, listen to her voice; for in Isaac your seed shall be called.’”
Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers. (Matthew 1:2)
Prayer: LORD, it’s amazing how YOU had the birth of Jesus planned ages ago and – of course – everything has been fulfilled just as you willed it. Thank You for counting me in your plans for the world. Amen.
