Day 38 | THE BLESSING
40 Days of THANKSGIVING
Day 38 | THE BLESSING
THE BLESSING
Numbers 6:24-26
“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.”
This is probably the Bible’s most famous blessing and many of us use it as a benediction at the close of church services. The LORD initially gave it to Moses to pass on to Aaron and his sons for them to use when blessing the children of Israel.
These people probably did not initially realize how powerful this blessing was, but I would guess as they heard it and it sunk into their thinking and hearts, they became THANKFUL for God’s blessing them.
This blessing contains some key promises.
The LORD (Yahweh) was the Blesser and He would KEEP His people. If you are a Believer in Christ, then Almighty God will “keep you,” too, through whatever may come. Isn’t that a comforting promise?
The LORD will also “make His face SHINE on you.” Remember Moses coming down from the mountain with a glowing face? I’m not sure our faces will glow like Moses’ did, but I believe there WILL be something special about us as a result of His face shining on us (or perhaps smiling) with His favor.
The LORD will also “be GRACIOUS” by surrounding us with His loving kindness.
Finally, the LORD will look upon us with Divine approval, giving us “PEACE.”
Today, so many are looking for PEACE, but to adapt an old song, they are “Looking for PEACE in all the wrong places.” Ultimate peace can only be found in the LORD.
Here’s an idea: re-read (or memorize) today’s blessing and say it daily for a week. See if that does not help you live better, more in touch with our LORD.
Prayer: LORD, thank You for this incredible blessing. You deserve all my praise. Amen.
