Day 36 | COMMUNION THANKSGIVING
COMMUNION THANKSGIVING
from Luke 22
Consider our Scripture today… the FIRST communion service with Jesus and His disciples.
“He took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he said, ‘Take this, and divide it among yourselves. For I tell you that from now on, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.’ And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.’ And likewise, the cup after they had eaten, saying, ‘This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.’” (from Luke 22)
Let me ask: If the Lord Jesus Christ gave THANKS while He was walking the earth, shouldn’t we?
The Apostle Paul followed that pattern in Acts 27:35 when he: “took bread, and giving thanks to God in the presence of all he broke it…”
Paul said, “Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it…” (1 Cor 11:23-24)
You see, Jesus was not only God in the flesh but the ultimate THANKFUL person.
When we come to Christ, we are also redeemed from our tendency toward ingratitude.
In Romans 1 Paul described what was wrong with the world in his day… and we see the same thing today. Paul wrote: “Although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.” (Romans 1:21)
My best guess is that most church folks could use a refresher course in living life thankfully to the LORD, not just at mealtime, but for All the things in life that we enjoy and take for granted. God has truly blessed America, and even today, with all that is going on, we need to give HIM the THANKS and the GLORY He deserves.
Prayer: LORD, help me remember ALL I have to be thankful for and to praise and thank You. Amen
