Day 28 | REMEMBERING WHAT THE LORD HAS DONE
REMEMBERING WHAT THE LORD HAS DONE

Psalm 107:8-9
“Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind, for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.”
  (NIV)

Over and over in the Scriptures, we are told and reminded about the LORD’s love for us and His wonderful deeds.

As I ponder this while writing, it becomes evident why we’re told it repeatedly throughout Scripture… we forget!  Our attention span is sometimes like that of a gnat.  We might have just experienced a WONDERFUL Sunday church service with great music, a super sermon, and friends all over the place. Yet, by mid-afternoon, we’re on to something else, and by mid-week, the service is often forgotten.

My wife and I have a friend, now in his 90s, who, when asked “how are you doing?” has answered – for as long as I have known him – “I’m doing better than I deserve.”

You see, he knows from whom his life, health, salvation, and everything he has comes… the LORD of today’s Psalm.

Re-read today’s verse.  Remind yourself of ALL you have for which you should be thankful to the LORD.  And note too, that LORD (in all caps) is the English for YHWY or, as we would pronounce it, Yahweh.  God’s Covenantal name is His more personal, holy name.  The name God gave Moses on the mount when Moses asked Him for His name – “I am that I am” – or Yahweh.  A name so holy that Jews – even today – will not speak it.

I know I’ve mentioned it before, but we all – myself included – should develop a more holy and reverent attitude about our LORD God, the Almighty, the King of Creation.  We should remember the PRIVILEGE we have of praying to Him, and we should – as today’s verses remind us – “give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind.” And that is just scratching the surface.

Prayer – LORD, I am THANKFUL for You and all You have done and Your activity in the world and in my life today.  Amen.
