40 Days of THANKSGIVING
Day 23 | WHERE GOOD GIFTS COME FROM
WHERE GOOD GIFTS COME FROM
James 1:17-18
“Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of lights [the Creator and Sustainer of the heavens], in whom there is no variation [no rising or setting] or shadow cast by His turning [for He is perfect and never changes]. It was of His own will that He gave us birth [as His children] by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits of His creatures [a prime example of what He created to be set apart to Himself—sanctified, made holy for His divine purposes].” (AMP)
Have you ever tried to buy the “perfect gift” for a friend or family member? Did you succeed? When you DO succeed, you feel tremendous, AND the gift receiver is happy and blessed.
Well, guess what? Almighty God KNOWS us so well (He is the Creator, after all), and He has blessed us with PERFECT GIFTS, the Biggest of which was Jesus Christ. John chapter 1 tells us that Jesus was the WORD, and He allowed us to be “born again” and become a child of God, so how perfect was THAN gift?!!
As I re-read today’s verses, I noticed terms like “Father of lights,” and thought of how no one likes total darkness. We want light… we need light.
And our God – the Father of light, the Creator and Sustain of the heavens – never changes. He is perfect all the time.
James 1 is a fantastic chapter… and John 1 is even better. If you can find the time, I would suggest reading each and then – GIVE THANKS to your Heavenly Father for the perfect gift from above, for me, for all mankind.
Prayer: LORD God, thank You for the perfect gift of your Son, Jesus. We’ll never fully understand the depth of that sacrifice, but it was a gift for us, for me, and I am eternally grateful. Amen.
