40 Days of THANKSGIVING
Day 21 | WE HAVE VICTORY
40 Days of THANKSGIVING
Day 21 | WE HAVE VICTORY
WE HAVE VICTORY
1 Corinthians 15:57-58
“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” (NIV)
Don’t you sometimes wish you knew what was going to happen tomorrow? But for whatever reason, the LORD didn’t give us that ability. And yet, HE knows what tomorrow holds for you, me, America, Israel, and the whole world. (Sing along: “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands”)
As Christ-followers, we can, we should, and we MUST be THANKFUL to our Lord God for the victory here and now AND the final victory, His and ours (see the book of Revelation.)
One of the things I have difficulty envisioning, is eternity. Whether eternity PAST (before Genesis 1:1) or eternity future (after Revelation). And yet, we will be VICTORIOUS through our Lord Jesus Christ. And because of that, our service to the Lord here and now, in this little piece of history, is NOT IN VAIN (or “useless” or “without purpose” or a “waste of time or effort” – as some other translations put it.)
This verse seems more meaningful today than perhaps in any previous decade. The reason? We seem to see fewer “victories” for God in our churches or nation than we saw in the last century. But we cannot compare now to then. We serve the LORD God, who sees all, is everywhere present, and is all-powerful. We work for Him. How He designs it all to fit together for His purposes is entirely up to Him, and He need not ask you or me for our opinions.
As I’ve often said: “He’s God, and we’re not.”
Prayer: LORD, I am thankful to be a part of Team Jesus. (Is it okay for me to say that?) YOU are the Head; You call the plays; You figure out the strategy. Help me to play my position as best I can for Your honor and glory. I am THANKFUL.
