Day 18 | REMEMBER THE FUNDAMENTALS
40 Days of THANKSGIVING
Day 18 | REMEMBER THE FUNDAMENTALS
REMEMBER THE FUNDAMENTALS
2 Corinthians 9:15
“Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!”
This week, we’re examining the need to STOP everything, LISTEN to the Lord, and then PRAY, being thankful for the fundamentals of our salvation and having been invited to become one of His children!
We need to remember the fundamentals as we consider growing our “attitude of gratitude” into a lifestyle of thanksgiving and praise.
In 1961, the famous pro football coach of the Green Bay Packers, Vince Lombardi, started the first day of spring training with the line, “Gentlemen, this is a football.”
We in Christ must NEVER forget the fundaments of the faith… and the fundamental GIFT we have received and must ALWAYS be thankful for is Jesus.
Jesus Christ is that “indescribable gift.” Jesus is “THE way, THE Truth, and THE life, and no one comes to the Father but by Him.” (John 14.6)
Jesus is our “fundamental” priority… Numero Uno in our Christian walk. Without Him in our lives, everything else we do is worthless, a waste of time, nonsense. But WITH Jesus in our lives, our lives become an adventure in faith, our slate is cleaned, our future is certain, and what we do as one of God’s children matters.
How thankful are you for THAT?
Sometimes, I think we ALL pray for things that don’t matter – in terms of eternity. “Lord, help me find a parking place that is close by.” “Lord, I pray that so-and-so will be nicer to me.” “Lord, help me to lose weight.” And those kinds of prayers don’t usually move us to be THANKFUL to God.
So today – maybe right now – take some time and pray a prayer of thanksgiving to God the Father for giving His only begotten Son so that YOU might believe in Him and have everlasting life.
Prayer: Lord God, I am forever thankful for You sending Your Son Jesus – the Messiah – to earth so that I may obtain everlasting life. Amen.
