40 Days of THANKSGIVING
Day 15 | THE SACRIFICE OF PRAISE
THE SACRIFICE OF PRAISE

Hebrews 13:15
“Through Him, therefore, let us at all times offer up to God a sacrifice of praise, which is the fruit of lips that thankfully acknowledge and confess and glorify His name.” (AMP)

Before Jesus came to earth, God’s people in the Old Testament had to do an annual animal sacrifice to cleanse them from sin. Each family would bring a lamb or two turtle doves if they were poor.   They would sacrifice at the temple and, in essence, say: "Please, Lord, accept my sacrifice and forgive us for our sins." The High Priest did his part and God was satisfied.

But then Jesus died on the cross, shedding His blood, once and for all, paying the price for our sins and usurping animal sacrifices.

Today, we, too, have an “altar” – the cross – and a “High Priest” who is Jesus Christ.

What God requires today is NOT an animal sacrifice, but rather a “sacrifice of praise, which is the fruit of lips that thankfully acknowledge and confess and glorify His name.”

Today, we should be most grateful and thankful for Jesus Christ, “…the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29)

Frankly, we have it EASY compared to the Old Testament times. And yet, MANY Christians are short on praise, thanks, and giving glory to Almighty God.

It might be because we get busy. It might be because we are self-centered. Or it might be that we don’t appreciate the ULTIMATE price that the Son of God paid for our sins by shedding His blood and dying on the cross so that we might be redeemed “by the blood of the lamb.”

Let today’s verse motivate ALL of us: “Through Him, therefore, let us at all times offer up to God a sacrifice of praise, which is the fruit of lips that thankfully acknowledge and confess and glorify His name.”

Prayer: LORD God, thank You for Your Son Jesus, the spotless Lamb. I praise You, I am thankful, and I glorify Your name!
