40 Days of Thanks - 13

40 Days of THANKSGIVING
Day 13 | THANKFUL IN PRAYER
THANKFUL IN PRAYER

Colossians 4:2
“Be persistent and devoted to prayer, being alert and focused in your prayer life with an attitude of thanksgiving.”
 (AMP)

Did you know that surveys show in a typical week, two out of three American adults (66%) pray at least once, with 45% saying they pray daily? I could not imagine NOT praying daily.

Let me ask: how is your prayer life?

First,  if you are reading (or listening) to this devotional, YOU are above average! So, I guess that your prayer life is above average, too.

But one thing MOST prayers could use more of is … thanksgiving.

I’ve shared this before, but when our children are little, we must TEACH them to say “thank you” when they get a gift. It often takes prompting – “What do you say?” and it may come out “tank-ewe” – but the lesson is learned, and the attitude of thankfulness is cultivated.

But as we age, many forget these childhood teachings of being grateful and showing it with a simple smile and a sincere “thank you!”

I think that’s one reason many adults don’t like getting presents on their birthdays or Christmas or whatever; they are not very good at being grateful and saying thanks.   But it’s not a big deal to say; if possible, look at the person (if possible), smile, and say “Thanks!”

Now consider what we all owe our Lord God. He has blessed us in many ways: salvation, forgiveness, eternal life, the Holy Spirit, spiritual fruits, His presence with us, access to the Throne Room (in prayer), and so much more!

He deserves our praise and thanksgiving.

Quick, think of THREE things God has done for you… recently or in the past. There’s nothing wrong with thanking Him again! Then keep your eyes open for more opportunities to Thank God!

Prayer: Lord God, THANK YOU for my life, my family, my relationship with You, and so much more! You deserve ALL my praise!
