Day 10 | BENEFITS OF THANKSGIVING
BENEFITS OF THANKSGIVING

Philippians 4:4-7
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Once again, we are given a short “punch list” of things to do to please God.  And let me remind you that EVERYTHING in the Bible that the LORD tells us to do is for His glory (yes) but also … for our benefit!  We are always better off when we obey God!

So here, we are told – again – to “REJOICE in the LORD always.”

Can you recall the last time you were really feeling HAPPY?  Was that a good feeling? (I imagine so.) And when we feel GOOD, aren’t we generally less tense and nicer to those around us?  “Gentleness will be evident to all.” (Verse 5)

The next step is to learn not to give in to the world’s goal of becoming worried and anxious, but instead to trust God and PRAY and PETITION the LORD God with our requests.  By doing that, we CAST our cares and worries on Him.  (1 Peter 5:7)

But notice that we are to do all of this with THANKSGIVING.  I find thanking Him for the previous answer to prayer a great way to build my faith before talking to Him about today’s issues.

Then, if we do things His way, what do we gain?

PEACE! And not just worldly peace, but the “peace of God which passes [or is beyond other people’s] all understanding.”  In other words, people around you will be astounded when they see your peace amid the fiery finance!

You see, if and when we do things God’s way, we benefit.  In this case, glorious peace will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Prayer: LORD GOD, help me practice these verses and do things Your way.  I know You love me, and I believe Your Word is truth and is to be my lamp and light.  Amen.
