Day 32 | DAVID – PRAISE AND PRAYER
DAVID – PRAISE AND PRAYER
Psalm 18:1-3
“I love you, Lord; You are my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; My God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. I called on the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and he saved me from my enemies.” (NLT)
We learn much from David in the Bible. It’s all there, the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Here we see another excellent KEY to why David was considered (by God) to be a “man after my own heart.”
David begins by telling the Lord of his LOVE for Him (the Lord). When is the last time YOU did that?
David continues by praising God; and he does that by ascribing great strength to the LORD… talking about Him being a rock, a fortress, his savior, his protection, his shield, and the power that SAVES him and provides him a place of safety. When is the last time you added phrases or concepts like that to YOUR prayer to Almighty God?
Notice what David has said to the LORD so far in this remarkable psalm… David has stated that the LORD is his strength, his rock, his fortress, his savior, and the One in whom he (David) finds protection. And that is because God is his SHIELD and power and place of safety.
Finally, David mentions that he “called upon the Lord” – meaning he prayed and asked what he needed – because God is ALL those things David has just spoken, and that God is worthy of praise and “HE saved me from my enemies.”
You might want to make a little punch list of things David spoke and prayed here and try adding them to YOUR prayers. It just might improve your prayer life… a LOT.
Prayer: LORD, YOU do deserve all my praise and adoration. David did a fantastic job of that here; help me learn from him and do likewise – for your honor and glory! Amen.
