A PRAYER FOR OUR NATION
2 Chronicles 7:14
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
Are you truly joyful about the direction our nation is going? What do you think the LORD thinks about the way things are going today?
As I read the history of America, I see that the Founding Fathers were indeed overwhelmingly committed to the Lord Jesus Christ and the Word of God. This has been proven in the personal letters they wrote and many of the official documents that they created. There was an overwhelming dependence on a real, almighty God whom they worshipped. They meant from the heart the words they wrote: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
Today, few and fewer Americans acknowledge God or His Son Jesus Christ. Fewer and fewer believe in a Creator.
Without getting too deep into the context of our verse today, suffice it to say that the BEST hope for our country today would be another “Great Awakening,” where people – en masse – come to the foot of the Cross and give their lives to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. THEN, maybe then, our God will look at America and “hear from heaven, forgive our sin, and will heal our land.”
Prayer: LORD, we – Your children – are calling and humbling and turning from evil. Help us encourage others to join us in the Family of God and become a nation upon which you can again smile, heal and bless. Amen.
