40 Days of PRAYER
Day 02 | PRAY WITHOUT CEASING
40 Days of PRAYER
Day 02 | PRAY WITHOUT CEASING
PRAY WITHOUT CEASING
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.” (NASB)
One of my most favorite sections of Scripture, these verses are just short, punctuated things “to-do,” and Paul even adds: “For this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.”
Let’s focus on: “Pray without ceasing” (NASB version) or “Never stop praying,” in the NLT version.
Now, HOW exactly do you do that?
In part, it depends on what you see or think of in your mind when you envision prayer. Do you see it as something you do at 8am for five minutes and then off to your life? Or do you really understand that God, the Holy Spirit, is living IN you 24/7 (which HE DOES if you’re a Believer) and that HE can be talked with throughout the day?
I know; that’s an advanced concept for some of you! But for others reading this, you know the truth of “I will never leave you or forsake you,” and the reality of what Jesus said when He said to His followers: “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” (John 14:16-17)
Building on yesterday’s devotional… prayer is COMMUNICATION with God. Talking AND listening, as you would talk to your spouse or a good friend. Prayer doesn’t require that you “fold your hands, bow your head and close your eyes.” It just requires talking and listening to your Heavenly Father.
Prayer: LORD, help me learn to talk to you in little bits throughout the day. And help me to hear Your voice better. Amen.
