Day 35 | THE KING OF GLORY
THE KING OF GLORY

Psalm 24
“The earth is the Lord’s, and all it contains, the world, and those who live in it. For He has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers.  Who may ascend onto the hill of the Lord? And who may stand in His holy place? One who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to deceit and has not sworn deceitfully. He will receive a blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation. This is the generation of those who seek Him, who seek Your face—even Jacob. Selah.
“Lift up your heads, you gates, and be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in! Who is the King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, you gates, and lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in! Who is this King of glory? The Lord of armies, He is the King of glory. Selah.”

For as far back as history goes, there have been wars and rumors of war. Modern, old, and ancient. In this psalm, David again uses what he knows to draw a distinction between his king and LORD God (YHWH or Yahweh) and the many other kings who led the surrounding countries.

David was convinced – thus one reason why God called him a “man after my own heart” – that his King, the LORD, was strong, mighty, and the BEST King, against whom the other kings were as nothing.

Note, too, that David wrote the music notation “Selah” into this song, intending the singer (or reader/listener) to pause, consider, gain confidence, and then be encouraged by the fact that the LORD was second to none.

Prayer: LORD, even today, many do not believe in You or recognize You are LORD. I do, and I’m trusting in You for all things. Amen.
