40 INSPIRING Days in Psalms & Proverbs
Day 32 | WHAT IS BETTER THAN GOLD?
WHAT IS BETTER THAN GOLD?
Proverbs 16
Have you ever wondered WHEN gold first became recognized as valuable and a medium for exchange?
The Bible mentions gold as early as Genesis 2:10-12 – “Now a river went out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it parted and became four riverheads. The name of the first is Pishon; it is the one which skirts the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. And the gold of that land is good.”
We also know that the Egyptians valued gold back in 3000 BC.
So, what does Solomon teach us here in Proverbs 16?
Verse 3 – “Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established.”
The LORD will help you think the right and creative thoughts you need in your work.
And in verse 9 – “The mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his paths.”
I love how the Lord works with us to accomplish things.
Verse 13 says – “Righteous lips are the delight of kings, and they love him who speaks what is right.”
Our words are critical to the LORD.
And verse 19 – “How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.”
Voila! WISDOM is better than gold, and Proverbs is all about getting wisdom!
The dictionary says: WISDOM is the ability to discern or judge what is true, proper, or lasting; it is common sense and good judgment.
Finally Vss 23-24 – “The heart of the wise teaches his mouth and adds learning to his lips. Pleasant words are like a honeycomb: sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.”
Again, our WORDS are so crucial that we all need to TEACH our mouths what to say to be wise. Also, the opposite of wise is foolish. We have foolish people all around us.
Prayer: LORD, help me to be WISE in what I think, in what I say, in what I do. Direct my paths. Amen.
