BENEFITS OF LIVING RIGHT

Proverbs 13

Throughout the Word of God, we read about the righteous (those who fear the Lord and obey His laws) and the unrighteous (those who reject God’s laws, sneer at Him, and live in the Kingdom of Darkness.)  Here, in Proverbs 13, we list more contrasts, showing the reader the BENEFITS that come from worshipping and obeying Almighty God and the MESSES that come from not.

Consider verses 2-3…
“From the fruit of a person’s mouth, he enjoys good, but the desire of the treacherous is violence. One who guards his mouth protects his life; One who opens wide his lips comes to ruin. A righteous person hates a false statement, but a wicked person acts disgustingly and shamefully.”

It should be evident to all reading this that our MOUTHS can be a blessing or a curse to others AND ourselves. Wars have started because of the wrong thing being said. Marriages broken. Children are forever scared by careless words being spoken.

Another proverb said: “There is LIFE and DEATH in the power of the tongue.”

Solomon – the human writer of Proverbs – had learned that, and here is passing it on to YOU and me.

In verses 13-15 we read: “One who despises the word will do poorly, but one who fears the commandment will be rewarded. The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, to turn aside from the snares of death. Good understanding produces favor, but the way of the treacherous is their own disaster.”

In Psalm 119, we read: “Your Word (God’s Word, the Bible) is a LAMP unto my feet and a LIGHT unto my path.”

When we follow God’s Word, we ask that HIS lamp and light illuminate our path to help keep us safe and on the path. Those who despise that word will do poorly.

And in Proverbs 13:20 – “One who walks with wise people will be wise, but a companion of fools will suffer harm.”

This raises the question of who you spend a lot of time with.

Prayer: LORD, I know that You know more than I do. Help me as I read and ponder these proverbs to make these wise teachings part of my lifestyle. Thank You. Amen.
