Day 26 | CHOOSING THE GOOD, EXCELLENT, RIGHTEOUSNESS AND WISE
CHOOSING THE GOOD, EXCELLENT, RIGHTEOUSNESS AND WISE

from Proverbs 12

In Proverbs 12, Solomon continues his short bits of wisdom which can be useful for ANYONE wanting to live in a healthy, wise way.  Like two sides of a coin, these pithy proverbs show a GOOD way to live (and with the POSITIVE results), and a BAD way (and with the NEGATIVES results).  As you read this list from Proverbs 12, consider areas in your life that could use some attention; then choose to live positively.

(v1) “Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid.”
(v2) “A good man obtains favor from the Lord, but a man of evil devices he condemns.”
(v4) “An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who brings shame is like rottenness in his bones.”
(v5) “The thoughts of the righteous are just; the counsels of the wicked are deceitful.”
(v10) “Whoever is righteous has regard for the life of his beast, but the mercy of the wicked is cruel.”
(v13) “An evil man is ensnared by the transgression of his lips, but the righteous escapes from trouble.”
(v15) “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.”
(v19) “Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment.”
(v20) “Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil, but those who plan peace have joy.”
(v25) “Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad”.
(v26) “Whoever is slothful will not roast his game, but the diligent man will get precious wealth.”

In v26, somewhat humorous in form, Solomon says that the lazy man does not finish what he starts.  As an example, he hunts, but then does not cook his meal.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for letting Solomon share such wise and poignant sayings with his son and with us too.  Help me to see myself in light of these – and all of the Proverbs – and apply and tweak things as You lead. Amen.
