40 INSPIRING Days in Psalms & Proverbs
Day 20 | CHOOSING GODLY WISDOM
CHOOSING GODLY WISDOM
from Proverbs 9
“Wisdom has built her house; She has carved its seven columns. She has prepared a great banquet, mixed the wines and set the table. She has sent her servants to invite everyone to come. She calls out from the heights overlooking the city. ‘Come in with me,’ she urges the simple. To those who lack good judgment, she says, ‘Come, eat my food, and drink the wine I have mixed. Leave your simple ways behind and begin to live; Learn to use good judgment.’
“Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment. Wisdom will multiply your days and add years to your life. If you become wise, you will be the one to benefit. If you scorn wisdom, you will be the one to suffer.”
Solomon continues to impress upon us the value and benefit of choosing to follow WISDOM rather than the way of the FOOLS. And yet, in Solomon’s day, as in our own time – plenty of people follow the Enemy whose way is the way of fools.
Solomon is painting a word picture where WISDOM appears as a hostess who has prepared a delicious banquet and urges ALL to come, eat, drink, and learn to use good judgment. Solomon goes on again to state the KEY starting place for all wisdom:
“Fear of the LORD is the FOUNDATION (or beginning) of WISDOM.”
Sometimes, people – even Christians – push back on the concept that “the fear of the LORD” is a necessary first step.
Jesus said in Matthew 10:28 – “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul, but rather be afraid of Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” (AMP)
The blessings from following Godly wisdom is a long list, but it includes good judgment, many days, a long life, and countless benefits.
Prayer: LORD God, I choose to follow You. Teach me Your ways. Amen
