Day 19 | A CRY TO GOD FOR THE OVERTHROW OF THE WICKED
A CRY TO GOD FOR THE OVERTHROW OF THE WICKED

Psalm 10:12-19
“Arise, O Lord!  Punish the wicked, O God! Do not ignore the helpless!  Why do the wicked get away with despising God? They think, ‘God will never call us to account.’ But You see the trouble and grief they cause. You take note of it and punish them. The helpless put their trust in You.  You defend the orphans. Break the arms of these wicked, evil people! Go after them until the last one is  destroyed. The Lord is king forever and ever! The godless nations will vanish from the land. Lord, You know the hopes of the helpless. Surely You will hear their cries and comfort them. You will bring justice to the orphans and the oppressed, so mere people can no longer terrify them.”
(NLT)

I’m not a fan of watching much news. Whether the news is slanted left or right, they are all designed to make YOU angry, stressed, and upset. Thus, watching or listening to the news regularly (in my opinion) is like eating a mild poison. It may not seem too bad initially, but just wait; it is cumulative.

Here, David cries out to the LORD God to do something with all the wicked.

Don’t you feel like crying about ALL the wicked today too?

Martin Luther, a KEY protestant reformer, said about this psalm: “There is not, in my judgment, a Psalm which describes the mind, the manners, the works, the words, the feelings, and the fate of the ungodly with so much propriety, fullness, and light, as this Psalm.”

I was pondering that with all that is happening today in our nation and the world, perhaps we all should be doing as the psalmist did here by crying out to the Lord God and humbly asking Him to “fix things” and deal harshly with all those who hate our Almighty God.

Prayer: You know best, of course, but I would love it if you would destroy or at least disempower the bad guys in our world. All those who do not bow and follow You as Almighty Lord God of the universe. Amen.
