40 INSPIRING Days in Psalms & Proverbs
Day 18 | THE HIGH VALUE OF WISDOM
THE HIGH VALUE OF WISDOM

Proverbs 8:12-21
“I, Wisdom, dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge and discretion. The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth I hate. Counsel is mine, and sound Wisdom; I am understanding, I have strength.  By me kings reign, and rulers decree justice. By me princes rule, and nobles, All the judges of the earth. I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently will find me. Riches and honor are with me, enduring riches and righteousness.  My fruit is better than gold, yes, than fine gold, and my revenue than choice silver. I traverse the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of justice, that I may cause those who love me to inherit wealth, that I may fill their treasuries."

We don't often think of "wisdom" like we would a person, but here, Solomon does just that by anthropomorphizing wisdom. (Definition: giving human personality characteristics to something non-human.)  Solomon is painting a verbal picture of wisdom, what it's like, and the fruit it provides to those who find and follow.

The advantage of following WISDOM is clearly shared in this proverb, along with a list of people who benefit from seeking Godly Wisdom (Kings, rulers, princes, nobles, and judges, for starters).

He also states that Wisdom LOVES those who love Wisdom and seek Wisdom diligently.

Those who LOVE Wisdom will find themselves rewarded. They will first find wisdom and the blessings that wisdom brings. It is even implied that WISDOM seeks out her followers to bless them.

One commentator said, "Paradoxically, when wealth is sought, it corrupts, but when wisdom is sought, edifying wealth is given."

The bottom line is to do YOURSELF a BIG favor: seek Godly Wisdom all the days of your life.

Prayer: LORD, thank You that You didn't just create the world and then turn away, but You provide us Your Wisdom and Your Spirit from whom we can learn and grow. Amen.
