Day 09 | MY VOICE SHALL YOU HEAR IN THE MORNING
MY VOICE SHALL YOU HEAR IN THE MORNING

Psalm 5:1-3
“Give ear to my words, O Lord, consider my meditation. Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray. My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.”

David is singing out to his Lord God again in this Psalm. He’s looking for help, direction, and a hearing. These things made him “A man after God’s own heart.” David truly WANTED the Lord God to listen, guide, and direct.

David was groaning, sighing, and crying. We don’t know exactly why – this time – but the fact that David is turning to the LORD is a good sign and in David’s favor.

Do you pray in the morning? Nothing says you HAVE to pray then, but the advantages are that your day is usually less complicated and busy then, and you MIGHT have a quieter time than 12 hours later. (Just a thought.)

David acknowledges that God is his King, and only to HIM will he lift up his voice and pray.

Surveys show that MOST people pray, and even a percentage of atheists say they pray (if that makes any sense).

Have you ever noticed that sometimes a good night’s sleep makes things look clearer, simpler, and fixable? David is looking UP to the Lord God early in the morning in this song, and he’s clear about telling the Lord that he’s doing that.

By the way, these verses were made into songs in David’s day AND in ours, and I remember both singing and directing the singing of these in church. (I wonder if we sounded as good as the choir in David’s day?)

Prayer: LORD, we need You every day, and we all need to lift our voices to You. Amen.
