40 INSPIRING Days in Ps-Prov - 01

40 INSPIRING Days in Psalms & Proverbs
Day 01 | Introduction
INTRODUCTION

I chose to add the adjective “INSPIRING” to the title of this, my latest series of devotionals, as it means having the effect of giving someone positive or creative feelings. And indeed, God’s Word CAN do that! Perhaps also, since this is my 20th set of 40-day devotionals I’ve written since 2022, I decided to tweak the title a bit!

The Merriam-Webster online dictionary had this to say under “More on the Meaning of Inspire”:
“When inspire first came into use in the 14th century, it had a meaning it still carries in English today: ‘to influence, move, or guide by divine or supernatural influence or action.’ It’s this use that we see in phrases like ‘scripture inspired by God,’ where the idea is that God shaped the scripture in an active and explicit way. The meaning is a metaphorical extension of the word’s Latin root: inspirare means ‘to breathe or blow into.’ The metaphor is a powerful one, with the very breath of a divine or supernatural force asserted as being at work.”

That definition makes me think of 2 Timothy 3:16 – “For all Scripture is inspired by God…” and the Greek for “inspired” means “God-breathed.”

This is why I added “inspiring” to this set of writings.

You might find it interesting that Billy Graham LOVED the Psalms and Proverbs and found that reading five Psalms and one Proverb daily could get him through BOTH books in one month! Billy did that regularly… and I’ve done it a few times myself (using different translations). I always find something new and refreshing in the reading.

Thus, as you start this 40-day series, my wife Debbie and I are hopeful that EACH DAY will inspire you, lift you up, and that you’ll see, sense, and feel God’s guidance and touch on your life.

So, as you get started, perhaps you can pray the following prayer and enhance it as you wish.

Prayer: Dear Lord, I truly desire to draw closer to you. May each day I am in these devotionals draw me closer to You and help me with the things I face. Amen.

“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24
