Day 27 | LIVING UNDER GRACE
40 Days of GRACE
Day 27 | LIVING UNDER GRACE
LIVING UNDER GRACE
Romans 6:15-18
“Now, what shall we do? Shall we go on sinning because we have no Law to condemn us anymore but are living under grace? Never! Just think what it would mean. You belong to the power which you choose to obey, whether you choose sin, whose reward is death, or God, obedience to whom means the reward of righteousness. Thank God that you, who were at one time the servants of sin, honestly responded to the impact of Christ’s teaching when you came under its influence. Then, released from the service of sin, you entered the service of righteousness.” (Phillips)
The Romans were struggling with how to live now that they were “born-again” by the grace of God. They were used to the old way of living before Christ, but now, they had received him as Lord and Savior and struggled with the temptation to return to living the old, familiar, sinful way. Paul teaches here that living under GRACE means not just accepting that Christ died for our sins on the cross but that we voluntarily change to living in righteousness. He also points out that they WERE slaves or servants of sin but no more; they have entered the service of righteousness.
We are living in days that are not that different from back then. Sure, the technology is way different – they didn’t have electricity, cars, printing presses, and so much more – but their choices were similar in many ways. Do I choose God or not? Do I choose to live for Him according to His Word and Spirit, or not? Each choice has a result and an outcome. Like driving across the country, each highway we take has its issues. Choose to take an Interstate and you’re pretty sure to have a faithful path to follow. But choose side streets and unmarked dirt roads, and your results could be disastrous.
Follow God’s Word and do it His way. It is the best bet for YOU, your future, your peace, and your life satisfaction.
Prayer: LORD, I want to follow You. Guide me, day by day. Thank you.
