Day 6 | OUR MERCIFUL AND GRACIOUS LORD
OUR MERCIFUL AND GRACIOUS LORD

Psalm 103:1-5, 8-10
”Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”
“The Lord is merciful and gracious, Slow to anger, and abounding in mercy. He will not always strive with us, Nor will He keep His anger forever. He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor punished us according to our iniquities.”

David truly knew how to praise the LORD, and he minced no words here in this Psalm where he praises God for a multitude of good things! I especially like David reminding us to “not forget ALL His benefits.”

There is so much in these verses! His benefits to us, His children, include forgiveness, healing, lovingkindness, tender mercies, filling us with good things, being slow to anger, and more!

And, to the point of this series, “The LORD is merciful and gracious.”

“The LORD (YHWH) is merciful and gracious.”

Have you ever met a truly gracious host or hostess at a party? They usually look for everyone at the party to be well cared for, enjoy themselves, and have a good time. That’s a gracious host.

Our LORD God is gracious towards His children and wants us to be well cared for and enjoy life. (John 10:10 – “I have come that you might have life abundant.”)

But note… David wrote this Psalm in light of ALL the LORD had done for him after he had repented probably for the 1,000th time!

If you want to receive all of the above from the LORD, you must obey Him. You must follow His plans… which are always BEST for you anyway! Like a VERY wise parent, our Father really does “know best.”

Prayer: LORD, thank You for all You do for me. Your “benefits” are more than I deserve; thank You. Amen.
