Day 37 | THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH
THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH
John 16:12-15
“There is so much more I want to tell you, but you can’t bear it now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me. All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said, ‘The Spirit will tell you whatever he receives from me.’” (NLT)
Even though Jesus had lived and walked with His disciples for almost three years at the time He spoke these words to them, it is obvious that there was much more TRUTH that He wanted them to know.
And so, Jesus introduces them to the fact that the Holy Spirit would be coming – in the future – and would guide and lead them deeper into the Truth which He (the Spirit) will hear from Jesus the Christ, the Son of the Living God.
Today, we are blessed as we have the Word of God AND the Spirit of God. We need to get used to the Spirit leading us – we who are Followers of Jesus – into the Truth on a daily basis. He is the One who guides us.
But know this, God the Holy Spirit will not lead us in ways that are contrary to the Word of God. God is NOT a God of confusion. He is not trying to make it difficult to follow Him, quite the contrary; He is doing everything He can to show us the right path to take in every situation.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge (and listen to) Him, and He shall direct your paths.” (Prov 3:5-6)
The HIM is the Holy Spirit. Our Guide is the Holy Spirit.
Jesus said: “…HE will guide you into all truth.” Jesus called Him, “the Spirit of Truth.”
Be glad that God has provided a Guide for us. In today’s upside down and inside out world, we NEED the Spirit who will guide us into all truth.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for not leaving us to figure this all out by ourselves. Like little children, we NEED YOU to help us… day by day, moment by moment. Speak, guide and lead – through Your Word and through Your Spirit. Amen.
