Genesis 1:26
“Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’”
People today have a lot of funny – and odd – ideas about people in general. But here in Genesis, we have some KEY and simple statements from God about people.
“Let US make man in OUR imagine, according to OUR likeness.”
God – Father, Son and Spirit – apparently had a pow-wow before anything existed and decided out of ALL the creation – the stars, moon, land, water, plant life and animals – to make MANKIND in God’s own image.
That is the TRUTH… PEOPLE are at the TOP of God’s creation scale.
Animals are NOT equal with people, in fact God gives man dominion over the animals, birds, fish and so on. I love dogs, but they are NOT made in God’s image. The planet has some beautiful places to be seen, but those places are NOT made in God’s image.
Only PEOPLE are made in God’s image. You and me and your family and your neighbors and the people who live 10,000 miles away. We all matter to God.
It’s important for us to learn to prioritize things the way God does. To call what He calls evil… evil and to call what He calls good… good. We must realize the priority He put on creation: mankind at the top of the pyramid as the only part of creation made in God’s own image.
Ponder this: YOU are God’s favorite. YOU carry God’s image in you. YOU are made in God’s likeness. YOU have been given dominion over all the earth.
Today, many are seriously confused about this. Many believe that “mankind” is the problem and that if we could eliminate most of the people on the planet, things would be so much better. (There are groups who advocate this – and try to encourage others to stop having babies and just let their family lines die out. Really!)
So today, be happy! Be joyful! Be thankful … that YOU have an exalted place in creation.
Prayer: Lord, I am thankful to be part of YOUR plan. I am thankful to learn the truth that I am made in Your image. I acknowledge that I haven’t always lived like that and am asking Your help to keep me living like a son or daughter of Yours. Amen.
