Day 13 | ON YOUR MARK, GET SET … GO!

Genesis 1:1
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”
As we discuss TRUTH, I can’t help but include these vital ten words.
Everything starts here. The world. The universe. The plants, trees, animals and human beings. Everything has its beginning in Genesis 1.
So, here’s the question: How did the universe get here?
Everything that we see comes from something else. Animals come from their parents, plants come from seeds, houses come from a builder, and cars come from the factory. Everything in the universe is contingent upon something else and is dependent on something else for its existence.
So then, going WAY back in time… where did the universe come from? Most people – if they ponder this question – come up with GOD.
Since the universe has not always existed, it has to have come from something that is non-contingent and non-dependent. That’s a fair definition of God.
Plato decided that it was reasonable to believe in God based on “the order of the motion of the stars, and of all things under the dominion of the mind which ordered the universe.”
Sir Isaac Newton said, “When I look at the solar system, I see the earth at the right distance from the sun to receive the proper amounts of heat and light. This did NOT happen by chance.”
The beauty, the complexity, and the variety speak of an infinite Creator.
Further, our sense of morality had to come from somewhere, Someone.
How do we instinctively know that murdering someone is bad? Or stealing? Or cheating? Or lying?
We know these things, instinctively, despite our nationality or language, because our Creator is moral and put this standard in us… we who were created in His image. (In fact, I believe that the reason there is a war on against the “10 Commandments” is not that people think they are inaccurate, but because they KNOW they are true but don’t want to acknowledge the Author or comply.)
In this “40 Days of Truth” emphasis, we’ve so far looked at and discussed a variety of Scriptures and concepts – but today – we get to ponder WHERE this truthfulness came from. And the answer is: from Almighty God. HE put the concepts into our DNA as people, created in His image, whether we acknowledge that or not.
As you live your life today, this week and this month, take time to acknowledge – again or perhaps for the first time – that YOU didn’t make this universe, but the One Who did, is nearby, can be reached in prayer, and wants to talk with you. (Don’t ask me why, but He does.)
Prayer: Lord, thank You for being willing to talk with me. Help me to acknowledge regularly Your creative hand and power in creating everything in the universe. Help that to be a motivation for me to spend time in prayer with You, my Rock, my Salvation, my God. Amen.
