Day 8 | SEEING THE PATH
40 Days of TRUTH
Day 8 | SEEING THE PATH
SEEING THE PATH
Psalm 119:105
“Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
I remember being in Boy Scouts years ago and some of the activities in which we engaged. Camping was always the highlight of the month, and we went somewhere nearly every month. I worked my way up through the ranks and soon became the “Senior Patrol Leader” (the top kid) and was in charge of a variety of things. One was the occasional night hike.
We’d usually go on these kinds of hikes when the moon was out but always reminded the other scouts to bring their flashlights.
I often remember a time when, during each hike – done mostly for the reaction of the new scouts – we’d all turn our lights off to see how dark it was. It was always a bit frightening… even with the moon and the stars. Trying to hike in the dark was really not wise, so we didn’t. But the point was made… a light on our path was essential for safety and to arrive back at our camp, which was our destination.
(It’s probably obvious where I’m going with this illustration and our Scripture verse!)
We are living in a dark world. In fact, during my lifetime, I can’t think of a darker time.
Many – both Christians and non – are struggling to figure out the best way to go. What to do next, which path to take, how to fix the economy, and on and on.
But God KNOWS all of this.
Remember, Ephesians 2:2 teaches us: “…in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience.”
(Does that help explain today, or what?)
Back to the darkened trail… there IS a trail leading to safety. Only one. God’s trail. God’s plan. God’s way. And the way to find that trail is to use HIS Word to light your feet and the path.
That’s what we did in Boy Scouts, even when we weren’t being tormented by anything or anyone.
Today, finding that trail to safety is vital for us who wish to survive and thrive in this dark world with multiple path options.
The TPT version puts it this way: “Truth’s shining light guides me in my choices and decisions; the revelation of your word makes my pathway clear.”
Jesus said: “I am the way, the truth and the life.” (John 14:6)
Everyone gets to CHOOSE which path they take and what they use – if anything – to light up that path.
I encourage you to re-discover the importance of the Word of God and to ask HIM for wisdom every day in finding Scriptures that help, lead and guide you on the path that HE has made, which leads to peace and safety in Him.
Prayer: Lord, I do want to follow Your path. I acknowledge that only YOU know the best way for me. Help me, lead me, guide me. You are my Rock, my Savior, My Lord, and my God. Amen.
