The POWER of 10
Day 32 | OUR STRONGHOLD
OUR STRONGHOLD
Psalm 9:9
“The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold.”
How often do we read in the Psalms that David needed the LORD to be his stronghold and protection? And why was that? Because David lived in a dangerous time. Many around him did NOT believe in God as he did, did NOT want to succumb to Israel being the “big dog” in the area, did NOT like all the blessings that David and his kingdom seemed to enjoy… and on and on.
In Psalm 9, David is grateful that God did more than just judge the wicked and say they were guilty. In times of trouble, the Lord God cared for His children and provided them with a stronghold where they could rest safely.
The next verse says: “And those who know Your name will put their trust in You.”
That got me wondering how many church-goers actually DO put their trust in our Almighty God.
Frankly, I have seen many believers through the decades to whom going to the LORD as a stronghold and refuge seems to be the LAST thing on their list of ways to try to get out of their messes.
Why do you think many Christians seem to think that?
Well, for one, we tend to feel – and this starts at an early age – that “I want to do it myself!” To some degree, growing up and handling things independently is a natural part of becoming an adult. But then, every adult runs into situations that can’t be handled solo. (I could make a list, but so could you).
Here’s the point: you and I must remember that our LORD God is a refuge and a stronghold for us.
Let me ask: do you need some support? Lean into Him; He’s there for you.
Prayer: LORD, help me look to you every day about everything. Help me not to give into Satan’s whisper that You’re too busy to be bothered. Thank You. Amen.
