Day 23 | THE WORD OF GOD AT WORK
The POWER of 10
Day 23 | THE WORD OF GOD AT WORK
THE WORD OF GOD AT WORK
1 Thessalonians 2:13
“… the Word of God which is working in you believers.”
Everyone gets sick occasionally. It’s not a fun thought, but it’s a reality.
Have you ever been so under the weather that you had to go to the doctor? There, the doctor checked you out and, if necessary, ordered you a prescription, hopefully solving the problem. Can you remember getting home, starting to take the prescription, and soon beginning to feel better, maybe in an hour or two or so? In those cases, the doctor’s diagnosis was correct, as was the prescribed Rx, which started to work in you.
Today’s verse could be looked at similarly. Paul is teaching the young Thessalonian believers about the Word of God.
We are familiar with 2 Timothy 3:16: “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”
Paul is teaching similarly here and suggesting that the Word of God is WORKING in the believers there in that church (and in us today, too). So, what does that mean?
The Word of God works effectively in those who believe. It doesn’t only bring information or produce feelings, but the power of the Word of God can – and does – change lives. When the Word of God is received and believed as THE Word of God, it has the energy and effectiveness to do many things – including produce the Fruit of the Spirit – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. God’s Word working in us can also supply us with rest, comfort, renewal of strength, and so on.
The next time you hear the Word of God – like in this devotional, or at church, or when you’re reading it, THINK: the Word that you are hearing (or reading) is at work within you to make you more like our Lord Jesus.
Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for Your Word, which is working within me for my good. Amen.
