The POWER of 10
Day 21 | JESUS – THE WORD
JESUS – THE WORD
John 1:14
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”
John, apparently wrote his gospel after the other three “synoptic gospels” (Matthew, Mark and Luke) had been in circulation for a while. It may be one reason why John included information about Jesus not already written in the other three. John truly focused on the deity of Jesus.
John 1:1-3 clearly teaches us that Jesus was the Word and was part of God before coming to earth and before He became flesh and dwelt among us… as in today’s verse.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” (John 1:1-3)
John wrote his gospel so that we might believe. John 20:31 says: “But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.”
Throughout history many have struggled with John’s gospel. Not because John wasn’t close to Jesus, but because John contends that Jesus was divine, that He was and is God.
John tells us in John 1 that not only was Jesus Christ part of the God-head (aka Trinity), but that He (Jesus, the Son of God) had the role of creator. In fact, EACH of the members of the Trinity were present and involved in creation. Read Genesis 1:2 – “Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.” This clearly tells us that the Holy Spirit was part of creation and we know from John 1 that Jesus was involved in all of creation too.
The more I think about Jesus becoming flesh and dwelling among us, I am overwhelmed at Jesus’ sacrifice. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…” Let’s promise never to take that for granted.
Prayer: LORD God, thank You for ALL that you’ve done for us and continue to do. I love you. Amen.
