The POWER of 10
Day 16 | GIVE THANKS TO THE LORD
GIVE THANKS TO THE LORD
1 Chronicles 16:8
“Oh, give thanks to the LORD! Call upon His name.”
The context for this verse is that the children of Israel have just placed the Ark of the Covenant in the Tabernacle Tent. Thus, after many years of the Ark being captured in battle and kept by another nation, it is now returned and put in the central place of great honor by the children of God. They rejoice, give offerings, make sacrifices, and David has the Levites minister before the Ark, lead the Israelites in worship, and praise their Jehovah God!
Like many psalms, today's verse begins almost like a command – “Oh, give thanks to the Lord and call upon His name!”
David then lists eight ways the people could worship God – give thanks, call upon, make known, sing, talk, glory, seek and remember!
Verse nine struck me: "Talk of all His wondrous works!"
When was the last time you talked about ALL that the LORD has done for you? Wouldn't they count as “wondrous works”? How about answered prayer?
Some pause their lives and give thanks to the Lord occasionally. Others call upon His name sometimes, though usually only when we need answered prayer. But maybe we need to do more TALKING about ALL He has already done ("wondrous works") and what a privilege it is to CALL upon His name because He knows us, loves us, and we're His children!
David was telling his followers to do just that. Be thankful, call upon Him, and talk about all He has done.
When things are going well in our lives, we often forget that GOD got us out of our mess and has led and blessed us. We often tend to be ungrateful children with short memories and only focus on what we need NOW.
Don't be an ungrateful child of God. Thank Him. Praise Him and talk about ALL His wonderful works!
Prayer: LORD God, I am thankful to You. I'm sorry I don't praise You more often. I am so glad you're my Lord and my God. Amen.
