Day 9 |RESTING IN THE LORD
RESTING IN THE LORD
Psalm 37:7
“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him.” (NIV)
The world today is noisy! Everywhere you look… noise. With the advent of the web back in the 90s, today we have streaming everything: news, music, talk radio, movies, and more 24/7. Many wear their earbuds ALL the time in part because they want to block the noise or are not used to silence or both.
So, where does that leave the Follower of Jesus who wants to hear more from the LORD?
In short… if you want to HEAR more from the Lord, it will take effort.
Enter today’s verse from Psalm 37.
Being “STILL before the Lord” – or some translations say “REST in the Lord” – takes determination. We all say we’re busy – and to some degree that is true – but busy doing what?
You see, the Lord promised to care for those who trust Him. Not only does He save us and promise us eternal life, but day by day He offers us LIFE and LIFE that is more abundant (see John 10:10).
So then, HOW does THAT happen?
We must learn to be STILL and REST in Him; trust Him to provide and guide. As we learn and practice being still and waiting patiently on Him, we can learn how to let go of the negatives of fear, doubt, worry, anger, panic, and so much more.
I know for many, as you listen or read this, you are going to be thinking, “Yes, but…” You need to know that the enemy of our faith uses that “yes-but” tactic to get us away from focusing on Jesus, getting into the Word, and trusting Him.
Being still, resting in the Lord, is a special kind of rest. It’s a combo of being still AND trusting in Him. THEN, when the Lord says: “Do this,” we move and act.
So, the first step is turning OFF the noise as much as possible. Then, focus on the Lord in prayer and silence and wait to hear from Him.
Prayer: LORD, thank You for caring about me. Thank You for knowing MORE than I will ever know. I will be still and wait patiently. Amen.
