Day 15 | “ALL MEANS ALL… AND THAT’S ALL, ALL MEANS”
“ALL MEANS ALL… AND THAT’S ALL, ALL MEANS”
Luke 2:10-12
“And so the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.’”
Sometimes it’s the little things in a familiar passage of Scripture that jump out at you and give you a fresh perspective.
The angel of the LORD is talking to the shepherds here and says: “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people.”
Notice: “all the people.”
In church, I often tell people that when they read the word “all,” to remember what it means: “All means all… and that’s all, all means.”
Thus, ALL the people means – everyone, past, present, and future.
And then the angel tells them HOW they will recognize HIM, “And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Now a manager was a “feeding trough” where animals would eat. I’m pretty sure Jesus was the only newborn in a feeding trough that night!
And ponder this: The angel came to these poor, lowly, outcast shepherds who were LOW in ALL social circles. “All means all… and that’s all, all means.”
Prayer: LORD, thank You for including ALL of us in the good news that happened that night. Help me appreciate this Christmas season afresh, with all that’s happening in our world, about what You did that special night. And help me to remember that it was GOOD NEWS to ALL people, including me. Amen
