Day 12 | ZECHARIAH AND ELIZABETH
Christmas–Advent 2023
Day 12 | ZECHARIAH AND ELIZABETH
ZECHARIAH AND ELIZABETH
Luke 1:5-7 and Luke 1:57-64
Vs 5: “Zechariah had a wife and her name was Elizabeth. They were both righteous in the sight of God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and requirements of the Lord. And yet they had no child, because Elizabeth was infertile, and they were both advanced in years.”
Vs 57: “And it happened that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to call him Zechariah, after his father. And yet his mother responded and said, ‘No indeed; but he shall be called John.’ And they said to her, ‘There is no one among your relatives who is called by this name.’ And they made signs to his father, as to what he wanted him called. And he asked for a tablet and wrote as follows, ‘His name is John.’ And they were all amazed. And at once his mouth was opened and his tongue freed, and he began speaking in praise of God.”
Isn’t that just like our God? He wants to bless those who are faithful to Him and so, in preparing to send Jesus to earth, God wanted to send someone as a forerunner to Jesus and decided to bless this faithful, Godly couple with a baby… despite their advanced years. And John the Baptist was born.
Another sign. Another miracle. Another guidepost for declaring that something SPECIAL is happening… that Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, is born.
Another step in the succession of steps that have taken many hundreds of years to see the fruition of God’s Master plan… the birth of His one and only Son, Jesus.
PRAYER: LORD, by comparison to these people, I am so impatient. Help me to trust you more and to lean into you with my concerns and doubts. YOU are always faithful and ALWAYS do all you say. I believe that and I’m trusting in You. Amen.
