CONNECTING with GOD
Day 26 | WHICH ARE YOU?
CONNECTING with GOD
Day 26 | WHICH ARE YOU?
WHICH ARE YOU?
Proverbs 10:1-11
“A wise child brings joy to a father; a foolish child brings grief to a mother. Tainted wealth has no lasting value, right living can save your life. The LORD will not let the godly go hungry, but he refuses to satisfy the craving of the wicked. Lazy people are soon poor; hard workers get rich. A wise youth harvests in the summer, but one who sleeps during harvest is a disgrace. The godly are showered with blessings; the words of the wicked conceal violent intentions. We have happy memories of the godly, but the name of a wicked person rots away. The wise are glad to be instructed, but babbling fools fall flat on their faces. People with integrity walk safely, but those who follow crooked paths will be exposed. People who wink at wrong cause trouble, a bold reproof promotes peace. The words of the godly are a life-giving fountain; the words of the wicked conceal violent intentions.” (NLT)
Though written by Solomon 3000 years ago, these timeless, Godly principles are spot-on for us today. And they show the result of staying CONNECTED with God and doing life HIS way. They show the BENEFITS of following the Lord.
Psalm 68:19 says, “Blessed be the Lord, Who daily loads us with benefits. The God of our salvation, Selah.”
I like that word “Selah.” It’s a musical term and it means to rest or pause and ponder what was just said.
These first verses from Proverbs 10 would also benefit from a “selah” placed here and there.
It’s so easy just to read through these verses, but actually pondering them, one verse at a time, and then perhaps asking God’s Holy Spirit (while you’re pausing) what He wants you to notice in that verse … would be an amazing idea!
Take verse 8: “The wise are glad to be instructed, but babbling fools fall flat on their faces.”
Do you ask the Lord to show you and teach you what He knows you need in that moment?
If you believe – as I do – that God is all-knowing, all-powerful, and everywhere present, why wouldn’t we all, every day, look to Him to increase our understanding at least a little bit?
Teachers do not dump all the year’s’ worth of teaching on their students on day one of a new year of school. They are smarter than that and know they’ll have to lead and teach their students day by day by day, allowing time for them to absorb what is being taught and hopefully learn the lessons being taught.
Our God is wiser than any earthly teacher and knows that we can only learn bit by bit too.
So, re-read those eleven verses and ask the Lord to show you at least one verse that He feels would bless you if you improved a little (or maybe a lot).
Prayer: Lord, I do what to live my life in such a way that I can be pleasing in Your sight and positioned for the blessings You want to pour out on Your children who are following You path and plan. Help me and show me where I need help, and thanks for being patient with me. Amen.
