CONNECTING with GOD
Day 19 | GROWING IN CHRIST
GROWING IN CHRIST
2 Corinthians 3:18
“And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.”
Yesterday I talked about Moses and his 40 days on Mt Sinai talking with God. And how – after Moses asked – God allowed him to see just God’s “glory” as He passed by because Moses couldn’t bear physically to see God face to face at that time.
But we live at a different time in the history of mankind. We live in the “church age” – after Jesus Christ came, lived, died, and rose again. After the Holy Spirit was sent to live in those who have done as Romans 10:9 says, “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Thus, we New Testament saints are somewhat different than the Old Testament saints inasmuch as we can do as Paul says – “And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord…”
Paul goes on to teach that we “… are being transformed in the same image from one degree of glory to another.” Are you?
Can you see any growth in your walk with the Lord? In your becoming more Christ like? In your love for God and for others? You see, being a “Christian” is not a one prayer stop. It’s more than just pray this prayer or raise your hand or come forward and you’ll be a Christian.
I like the term “born again,” because it denotes (to me at least) a new beginning. But it is just that, a beginning.
Did you know that an estimated 353,000 babies are born worldwide every day? And the one thing they have in common is this: they are small, pretty much helpless… babies. They need to GROW, get bigger, learn to walk, talk, feed themselves and all the rest.
A freshly born-again Christian is also like a baby in Christ. He or she needs to GROW in the Lord, learn to “walk” and “feed himself” spiritually.
The church is the #1 plan of God for all Christians… those newly born again or long time disciples. It’s the place where we can come to know other believers and to become known to the Family of God.
The church can also help us to grow “from one degree of glory to another” as Paul says in this verse. Don’t neglect the assembling together with other believers.
Prayer, Lord, I do want to GROW in my walk with You. Help me to take the steps – by myself AND with others – to grow my faith, to mature my faith and to follow your plan for my life. Amen.
