Day  37 | GREAT FOOLISHNESS
GREAT FOOLISHNESS

Proverbs 14:29
“He who is slow to anger has great understanding [and profits from his self-control], But he who is quick-tempered exposes and exalts his foolishness [for all to see].”
(AMP)

We seem to be living in an era where foolishness abounds. If we could ask Solomon, he would tell us that he understands… which is why he said that one sign of a fool is someone who cannot control their anger. Such people’s anger can go from zero to 100 at the drop of a hat and they have NO control.

Besides showing their great foolishness, they also demonstrate their inability to actually think or honestly debate a topic for which they already have their minds made up. They show they are not interested in the facts but just make a game out of shouting down and calling names of others who disagree with them. Then they pat themselves on the back, feeling they have “won” the argument. When later, they tell that story to their like-minded foolish friends, the friends applaud them. They are all “exalting their foolishness.”

In his desire to impart wisdom, Solomon teaches that WE must control our anger, not look foolish. Further, he says we will “profit from [our] self-control.”

Today, many people – including students attending “prestigious universities” – cannot fairly judge, debate, or evaluate the evidence presented to them. They have become so blinded by hatred, resentment, and ego that they only want to “win.”  Our country used to believe in objective truth, which is not something FOOLS are interested in.

So, how does this apply to us today? What might be the application?

First, we need to STAY in the Truth. Scripture says, “And you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free,” (Romans 8:32). Jesus said in His prayer to His Father, “Your Word is truth,” (John 17:17).   Jesus also said, “I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father, but by me,” (John 14:6).

Prayer: LORD, our country is drifting farther and farther from You.  Thank You for Your Word, a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Amen.
