Day  29 | WISE LIVING IN A DARKENED WORLD
WISE LIVING IN A DARKENED WORLD

Romans 12:1-2
“And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
(NLT)

We are living in a time of “control mania.”  It seems everyone wants to control everyone else and everything. And the more money and power a control freak has, the more delusional this power trip is. It used to be we knew what freedom was, but today, we hear some version of “Everyone needs to obey me” all the time.

That problem, though, is not new to today. Back in the New Testament era, it was similar. The Romans and the Jews wanted everyone to live the way they wanted. Those following Jesus Christ – known then as “The Way” – tried to follow the Lord God.

The Apostle Paul, the human author of Romans, appeals to the church at Rome and encourages living for the LORD. A fundamental way to do that is by NOT going along with the behavior patterns of this world, but instead, allowing God to change those behaviors and their thinking by learning to follow God’s will and plan.

What does that mean?

The use of the word BODY here is a reference to our entire being. We are to present ALL of us to the Lord, our SELF.

If we genuinely offer ALL of ourselves to the LORD, we can learn God’s WILL for us… which Paul says is “good and pleasing and perfect.”  Serving God and being where He wants you to be, doing what He wants you to do, is very good, perfect, and pleasing to You and the Lord.

Prayer: Lord, here I am, all of me. Help me to be aware and not get swept along in the current affairs of this life. Amen.
