Day  28 | THE WISE THING TO DO
THE WISE THING TO DO

John 8:31-32
“Jesus said to the people who believed in him, ‘You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’”
(NLT)

When Jesus came to earth, He had a mission: to pay the price for all sins of all time so that people could be set free. His life, death, and resurrection have been predicted ever since Genesis. And these words, spoken by Jesus and penned by human author John, are some of Jesus’ most remembered words.

One of the reasons these words seem to resonate and be remembered so well by so many is that deep down, we ALL want to be FREE.   Christian or non-Christian, most people want to be free. (Yes, some don’t. Go figure.)

So, if a person wants to be free, then what is required? “And you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free.”

So, knowledge of the TRUTH is required. So, getting acquainted with Truth and the Source of Truth would be very wise to do, right?

Today, there is a tug-a-war as to what truth is. But this is nothing new; Pilate asked Jesus during his trials, “What is truth?” Many are asking the same question today but will not find it because – if I can tweak an old song title – they are “Looking for truth in all the wrong places!”

Jesus said: “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings.  And you will know the Truth and the Truth will set you free.”

Other translations put “remain faithful to my teachings” as: “hold to his teachings,” “continue in my word,” or “living out what I tell you” or “live as I tell you to.”  The point is, that only by spending time in God’s Word will we be set free because we know the Truth.   As Jesus said to His Father, “Your Word is Truth.”  (John 17.17)

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to spend time in Your Word. I do want to know Your Truth. Amen.
